The Procedure:
Restylane® is dermal filler made from a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is present in your skin naturally where it helps to keep it supple and youthful. With time the amounts of hyaluronic acid tend to dwindle leading to lack of moisture and wrinkle formation as we age. Restylane® works by increasing your body's production of hyaluronic acid and so improves your skin quality. Restylane® is made from biodegradable non-animal hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturizer. Both men and women can benefit from treatment with Restylane®.

The surgeon injects the filler in a series of small injections and the area gently massaged.  The treatment takes between 10 and 30 minutes.

As soon as your treatment is over you can resume normal daily activities. The area may be a little swollen and tender for 24 hours and during that time you should avoid coffee, alcohol, hot drinks and the sun.

The Results:
The result is instant. The lines and wrinkles are softened; the lips can be plumped up and given more definition.  Restylane® gives long lasting but not permanent effects. The degree of correction is dependent on the patient's wishes and the amount of product used. Results are also dependent on a patient's skin type and facial structure, their life style and their own perception. Most patients choose to have a follow up six to twelve months after their initial treatment for contouring or wrinkles. After lip treatments require follow ups normally after around six months.

Since it was first launched in 1996, Restylane® has undergone extensive clinical scrutiny with an increasing body of evidence relating to its ease of use, tolerability and effectiveness. Today, more than 1,500,000 treatments have been successfully carried out worldwide.

The Risks of Restylane®:
Risks can include a small risk of allergic reaction to the filler or bruising of the treated area, or nodule formation. People with a history of cold sores may experience a recurrence after treatment, although this can be minimized by the use of antiviral medicines. Restylane® should be avoided if pregnant or breastfeeding.
