Cholecystectomy is the operation for the removal of the Gall Bladder.

This is necessary when the Gall Bladder is the sources of problems e.g. recurrent pain, nausea and vomiting, usually because of gall stones.

Nowadays, this operation is carried out by the Laparoscopic technique – “key hole surgery” and is called Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.  It’s a quick and safe procedure and the post op recovery is very short.  The patient stays in the hospital for a day or two and is back to normal activities usually within 7 – 10 days.

The removal of the gall bladder has no post op side effects and the patient leads a normal life afterwards.
