Purpose: Vaginoplasty often called vaginal rejuvenation is a surgical procedure that can help women who have had multiple childbirths by offerring a surgical remedy to tighten the vaginal muscles, supporting tissues and enhance the sensitivity of the vagina.  There is also a growing demand today, mostly due to ethnic and religious requirements, to re-construct the woman’s hymen.

Labiaplasty is for women who have a problem with large labia or asymmetric labia. Labiaplasty permits the reduction of of large labia to reduce their outward appearance and correct their shape or irregularities.

Procedure:
Anaesethetic: General or local combined with sedation.
Duration of procedure: one hour
Hospital stay: 1 night

The procedure is usually carried out with traditional surgical methods, but sometimes a laser is used. The surgeon joins the stretched muscle at the back of the vagina together and shortens it, before removing the unwanted skin. This reduces excess vaginal lining and tightens vaginal muscles. The scarring is inside the vagina. Vaginal tightening may also be performed using a laser.

Results: Most women find that there is an increase in the tightness of their vaginal muscles, and some women say that the surgery restores their vagina to how it was before pregnancy.

Risks: Patients will be sore and swollen after surgery, but should be able to walk without discomfort within a few days and should be able to go back to work after about a week. You should avoid sex for between four and six weeks. Over tightening can lead to urine retention. As with any surgery, there are risks to consider. Although the majority of patients do not experience the following complications, you should understand all possible consequences of vaginoplasty surgery

You will be given specific instructions that may include: How to care for the surgical site and drains, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when to follow up with your plastic surgeon.
